Respawn Entertainment may be known for the Titanfall games, but the company has now revealed that it may become better known for its Star Wars titles. In fact, it was recently revealed during the EA Play event as part of the big E3 week that Respawn is working on a game called Jedi: Fallen Order.

The reveal took place in an interview with Morgan Webb who managed to talk to Respawn Entertainment co-founder, Vince Zampella, during the EA Play event that was livestreamed over on the Electronic Arts YouTube channel.

Zampella revealed during the event that Respawn Entertainment is currently focusing on Jedi: Fallen Order right now, and that the game is set between Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope. The game is scheduled to come out for home consoles and PC starting next holiday season in 2019. Obviously there was no new footage to put on display, because it's still a year out from release. However, this likely means that we'll get a formal reveal either by end of this year or at some point in early next year.

Given the fact that there are new Star Wars media coming out every so often, I wouldn't be surprised if the reveal came during the announcement of a new film, or during a preview of another big game.

As for the game itself, Jedi: Fallen Order is explained as taking place during the "dark time" of the Star Wars universe. It's themed around the last of the Jedi who are being hunted down and killed following the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, where Emperor Palpatine initiated Order 66 to have the Clone Troopers execute the Jedi.

The majority of the Jedi died on the battlefield at the hands of the Clone Troopers. Many more were killed by Anakin during the massacre at the Jedi temple. A few, however, managed to escape and flee to the outer rim, where the Empire continued to gain control and influence over the galaxy, and the Jedi had to flee and fight for their lives.

What we don't know is what sort of gameplay will be at the helm of the experience. What we do know is that you will be able to wield a lightsaber in the game. This assumes that it may be a third-person action title, similar to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, where players got to run around, use the lightsaber and unleash their Force powers on the baddies.

A lot of gamers have also been hoping to see something similar to Star Wars: Jedi Knight, and it sounds like players will be in control of a Jedi attempting to survive against execution-style forces being sent out by the Empire.

Obviously the game won't have a happy ending given that we know how Star Wars: A New Hope starts, but it will be interesting to see what Respawn Entertainment comes up with to tie it all together, and we'll get to see how the company handles a property that isn't Titanfall.
