There was a swelling within the Nintendo fandom; raucous amounts of cheer and glee filled the halls of certain internet communities for a short time regarding a rumor that spread about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword coming to the Nintendo Switch, but then Nintendo went and shot down those rumors.

Eurogamer is reporting that a Nintendo representative responded to their inquiry, informing them that there are no plans to port Skyward Sword to the Nintendo Switch, saying...

At this time we have no plans to release The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on Nintendo Switch.

This response actually came in lieu of that swelling mentioned in the first paragraph. You see, it all started with a concert.

Back on November 22, the 2018 Legend of Zelda orchestra tour began in Japan. The tour made a second stop in its three-date schedule at the Orix Theater in Osaka, Japan on November 25. The tour is part of a commemoration of the symphonic orchestra that has now become embedded within the soundtracks of The Legend of Zelda games since the release of Skyward Sword back in 2011, as noted by OTA Quest.

During the concert, executive producer over Legend of Zelda titles, Eiji Aonuma, was in attendance. He then proceeded to take the stage at the Orix Theater in Osaka, and supposedly quipped about Skyward Sword being on the Switch. The story goes that the theater erupted with applause, as many gamers wanted to play a remastered version of the game on more stable hardware.

The issue with the game's initial release is that it was hampered by the Wii's shoddy motion-control peripherals and it required players to get their hands on the Wii-Motion Plus enhancement in order to play the game correctly. Unlike previous games in the series where combat was controlled with the face buttons, Skyward Sword required players to swing and waggle their arms around to perform strikes. This did not go over too well at the time of the game's release, and, due to the technical flaws, this really hampered the appeal of the game, despite having released on Nintendo's most popular home console at the time.

Being able to play the game with the Switch's Joy-Con devices might actually make for a better experience given how much better the motion controls are for the Switch. That's not to mention that, visually, the game could end up getting a nice HD overhaul, and would likely look a lot better running at 1080p on the big screen.

Initially, gamers thought that the game might be announced as a remaster at this year's The Game Awards, which is set to take place next week, as it has become a tradition for Nintendo to announce new games or content at Geoff Keighley's awards show. The event has also regularly played host to announcements for The Legend of Zelda, especially Breath of the Wild.

However, with Nintendo shooting down the rumors it looks like an announcement for Skyward Sword may not be happening after all.
