Yet another announcement via tweet, the official Tomb Raider account recently posted a brief update on the coming launch of The Pillar, which arrives early next week on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The video attached isn't actually full of fresh details, as it's actually a six-second look at a still picture with a shiny effect added to the DLC title. Still, if you're into adventuring with Mrs. Croft, you probably don't need much more than that to know that this is an adventure you plan to go on.
According to the brief clip's description, players will "brave the storm" when The Pillar launches next week, guiding Croft as she ventures into the path of a gosh-darned hurricane to learn more about the Mayan apocalypse. Since that's the same mystery players started to unravel in the initial game and the first DLC adventure, fans of the series will likely want to gear up for another insane bout of running, jumping, swinging and slaying.
While we don't have any major details concerning The Pillar, it's probably a safe bet to assume that it will follow a similar path to Shadow's first DLC, The Forge. While Croft found herself diving into a flooded tomb in that particular quest, I'd put safe money on another exotic locale in need of exploring. Based on the promotional art, though, it's likely this next leg of the journey will feature more traipsing through exterior environments.
Believe it or not, Croft's journey still won't be over once The Pillar concludes. It's only the second of a seven-part DLC pack and, while not all of the DLC is necessarily going to feature new story bits peppered across fresh tombs, The Pillar is not Shadow of the Tomb Raider's last hoo-rah. As for what comes next, well, we'll just have to wait and see.
As far as the timing goes, Square Enix was smart to drop a new chapter right in the middle of December. Here in the States, loads of schoolkids and college students are about to go on winter break, which means they'll have plenty of time to get in some gaming with a legendary spelunker like Lara Croft. It's also a good time to put the game back into the conversation, just in case anyone needed some bright ideas for a last-minute present wish list.
