The Batman Villain Aubrey Plaza Wants To Play

Aubry Plaza in Legion

Between the DC Extended Universe, Marvel Cinematic Universe, and X-Men franchise, there are superhero movies everywhere. Silver screen adaptations of comic book plots have become the most profitable films in Hollywood, and it seems like just about everyone wants to get in on the superhero genre. This even includes Parks and Recreation actress Aubrey Plaza, who got to inhabit a Marvel character in FX's Legion. And now it turns out that she'd be down to play a DC villain as well: none other than Batman's frenemy and occasional love interest Catwoman.

Aubrey Plaza recently participated in a Reddit AMA in order to promote her new comedy The Little Hours. When a Redditor asked the actress which movie she wish she'd been apart of, she offered a character instead. She stated plainly that she wants to be Catwoman, and I'm actually down for this fantastic (albeit unconventional) casting choice.

While many Batman purists may protest the idea of Aubrey Plaza stepping into Selina Kyle's signature cat suit, she's actually got the acting chops to pull off such an iconic character. Although Plaza got her first big break playing April on Parks and Recreation, she's gone on to create an impressive acting career for herself. She's managed to book quite a few big budget movies, including Ingrid Goes West, Dirty Grandpa, and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. She's got the experience to head into a major blockbuster, and has been clearly hustling to establish herself as a bonafide movie star.

Catwoman in the comics

Additionally, Aubrey Plaza has stepped into the world of superheroics recently through her acclaimed role in Legion. Lenny died in the show's first episode, with the character originally returning as a figment in protagonist David's mind. But it later turns out that it's not Lenny in his head at all, but the mutant villain Shadow King. Legion has been one of the most ambitious comic book adaptations ever, and Plaza was able to portray a villain well. This type of role could no doubt be a training of sorts for Plaza to eventually play Catwoman in the DCEU.

That being said, it's certainly unlikely that Aubrey Plaza is being considered for the role of Catwoman in the DCEU. The universe has been booking some A-list talent for their various characters, and Plaza might not yet have the star power to carry the role for the studio. Additionally, fan boys would likely flip their lids to see an unconventional actress play Selina Kyle, despite Plaza's talent and clear work ethic.

You can catch Aubrey Plaza in The Little Hours on June 30, 2017. In the meantime, check out our 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
