Will Infinity War Explore Scarlet Witch And Vision's Romantic Relationship? Here's What Elizabeth Olsen Says

Vision and Scarlet Witch in Captain America: Civil War

One of the weirder romantic pairings from Marvel comics has been Scarlet Witch and The Vision. One is a an enhanced individual with telekinetic and probability-manipulation abilities, the other is an android who can fly, change his mass and shoot energy beams out of his forehead, among other things. Those two crazy kids were quite the item for a long time in the comics, and there were hints of something brewing between their Marvel Cinematic Universe counterparts before the superhero conflict unfolded. But Elizabeth Olsen has confirmed that the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War will explore Scarlet Witch and Vision's relationship more deeply. When questioned about a potential romance, she said:

In any other world I would say, 'I don't know,' but because there are paparazzi photos that kind of spoil things for fans -- I think it's safe to say that we now get to explore that part of the comic book. We get to introduce and really explore their relationship. It creates a really exciting arc for me and I'm so lucky I get to work with (Paul) Bettany all the time now. [laughs]

A few months ago, set photos from Avengers: Infinity War leaked that shows a human-looking Vision (i.e. Paul Bettany without all that makeup) and Scarlet Witch, a.k.a. Wanda Maximoff, appearing to be intimate with one another. Aside from questions about why Vision looked so different, the photos triggered speculation about if him and Scarlet Witch would finally become more than just superhero allies. Olsen wasn't willing to disclose any specific details about the romantic future between the two, but her above answer to We Got This Covered means that we'll see how their relationship grows in the midst of everything else going on in Infinity War.

When we left off with Scarlet Witch and Vision in Captain America: Civil War, both were in very different places, literally and figuratively. Scarlet Witch had been broken out of The Raft with Hawkeye, Falcon and Ant-Man by Steve Rogers (who had abandoned his Captain America identity), and now she's on the run for refusing to sign the Sokovia Accords and helping protect Winter Soldier. Vision, on the other hand, was still a free "man," but he struggled with having accidentally crippled War Machine during the airport battle. It's clear that the two of them shared a special connection, but thanks to the Civil War conflict escalating, they weren't able to explore that.

The Avengers are fractured right now, but when Thanos and the Black Order arrive on Earth to snatch the Infinity Stones, Earth's Mightiest Heroes will need to reunite and overcome their differences to try to prevent these alien invaders from collecting all six of these artifacts to rewrite reality. Given that Vision is powered by the Mind Stone, we can't help if the progress he and Scarlet Witch will make with one another will be undone if Thanos or one of his minions tears out the very thing that gave him life.

Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on May 4, 2018.
