Ryan Reynolds Reveals His Favorite Deadpool Action Scene

Deadpool Bob scene

Though he is well-known for his snarky and sarcastic demeanor, Ryan Reynolds has also carved out a respectable action resume over the years. Between superhero franchises like Blade and Green Lantern, not to mention gritty thrillers like Safe House, he has a knack for hardcore action that continues to impress. I recently asked Reynolds about his career-favorite action scene during the press junket for The Hitman's Bodyguard, and he revealed that he has a hard spot (that came out wrong... or did it?) for the encounter with Bob in Deadpool. Reynolds elaborated:

I would probably say for me, the Bob fight in Deadpool 1 where I sort of land on this guy and I kind of tea bag him. I'm about to take his head off, and I recognize him. We used to go to TGI Fridays together. We're like friends. It was just like a nice, weird moment to undercut the sort of senseless violence in these movies sometimes.

That particular scene pretty much encapsulates one of the many reasons why fans have fallen in love with the burgeoning Deadpool franchise. Taking place towards the end of the first film, it follows the nigh-invincible titular badass as he lays waste to Ajax's henchmen in a junkyard. What follows is one of the bloodiest and most senselessly violent sequences in comic book movie history, but it's punctuated by Wade (Reynolds) encountering his longtime friend Bob (who may or may not be a HYDRA agent) and reminiscing about their trips to TGI Fridays before red-clad anti-hero headbutts his old buddy into unconsciousness. By ending the sequence on such a bizarre note, the film shines a light on the absurdity of the violence that preceded it.

But don't take my word for it. Take a look at the following clip to see Ryan Reynolds explicitly lay out why he likes that scene from Deadpool so much.

If that is the type of action sequence that Ryan Reynolds appreciates in the Deadpool franchise, then it stands to reason that we will see plenty more scenes like it next summer. The Deadpool universe will take a massive step forward next year with Deadpool 2, and the fact that Atomic Blonde director David Leitch has stepped behind the camera promises nothing less than some truly spectacular set pieces. Couple that with the fact that Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz both look amazing as Cable and Domino (respectively), and it becomes abundantly clear that there's a lot to get excited about on the horizon for this X-Men spinoff. Seriously, can this sequel just come out already?

Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson will share silver screen badass duties when The Hitman's Bodyguard premieres in theaters this weekend on August 18. From there, Reynolds will return to the role of Wade Wilson when Deadpool 2 debuts on June 1, 2018.
