The Hilarious Way Arnold Schwarzenegger Pranked Everyone Filming Terminator 2

Terminator 2 Arnold Schwarzenegger T-800

It's no secret that sequels sometimes have a hard time living up to the legacy of the original. That's why Terminator 2: Judgement Day is such an oddity. The second Terminator team-up between Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron delivered the goods in every possible way, and many fans even hail it as the superior Terminator film to this day. Now it sounds like everyone had a lot of fun making the film backing the 1990s, as Cameron recently revealed (ahead of T2's 3d re-release) that Schwarzenegger spent the bulk of one of his most straight-faced scenes pranking the cast and crew with some absurdly colorful shorts. Cameron elaborated:

Arnold walks into the bar wearing the loudest pair of Hawaiian print board shorts that he can. And everyone in the bar is supposed to keep a straight face, but it all actually worked out OK because they all looked down in surprise.

The sequence in question is the bar scene towards the beginning of the film when the T-800 arrives from his journey through time. Walking into a biker bar stark naked, he sizes up the patrons and makes one of the most imposing badasses in the room give him his clothes, boots, and motorcycle. It's one of the funniest and coolest scenes in the movie, but I guess the atmosphere on set was even weirder than we ever imagined.

Knowing that Arnold was wearing some obnoxiously vibrant shorts kind of puts that scene in a different perspective, doesn't it? Check it out below to see for yourself.

Of course, thinking bigger, Jim Cameron's story to THR only reminds us of the amount of fun that Arnold Schwarzenegger clearly has whenever he takes part in a Terminator movie. Looking ahead to the future, that sense of fun could become invaluable as he, James Cameron, and Deadpool director Tim Miller dive headfirst into a reboot of the franchise. Cameron made a very public display of his reacquisition of the Terminator rights after the critically polarizing Terminator: Genisys and the franchise is now looking for a rebirth by combining its oldest members and some fresh blood. We don't know much about where the franchise will go from here, but all eyes are on this trio to deliver the goods.

CinemaBlend will keep you posted with more information related to the future of The Terminator franchise as new details become available to us. Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D hits theaters on August 25. As for James Cameron's other major franchise, make sure to catch Avatar 2 when it debuts three years from now on December 18, 2020.
