Recently Star Wars: The Last Jedi revealed some of the new alien creatures that will be part of the newest film in the franchise. Porgs. The internet met them with a collective "awwwww." I mean, for real. While the Star Wars Universe is full of aliens, many of them are of the giant monster variety, but some are downright adorable.
While many viewed the Porgs as some sort of pandering to the toy market, the fact is that weird, and occasionally cute, aliens have been a part of the Star Wars universe for as long as it's been around. Here are the cutest aliens in Star Wars, ranked by their adorableness.
6. Banthas
Banthas may not be the first animal you think of when you're considering cute Star Wars creatures, but if you've ever stopped to look at them, then you know that they actually look incredibly peaceful and friendly -- and that goes a long way. They're basically just walking balls of hair that happen to be 15 feet tall. They don't look nearly as nasty as the Tusken Raiders that use them for transportation. Just look at that face. Are you saying that thing isn't cute? I'm pretty sure if you scratched a bantha behind the ear it would just smile at you.
5. Eopies
They look a little like Anteaters with extra long legs, and anteaters are remarkably cute, therefore, so are these guys. Another native of Tatooine, though one we don't see in the original trilogy. Eopies are animals used as mounted transportation so they're sort of like camels, only better looking. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace doesn't include the cutest scene with them, but as pack animals go in Star Wars, there are some much uglier creatures out there. It's something about the flexible snout that flops back and forth when they move their heads that's just too cute.
4. BB-8
BB-8 may be made of metal, but that doesn't make the tiny little droid any less adorable. The small stature of BB-8 makes everything the droid does adorable by default. BB-8 is the droid that you want to take home and keep as a pet, which is, we're pretty sure, why there is so much merchandise featuring the little guy. Even the tones of beeps and boops are cute, so we'll never get tired of hearing this little one talk. There is no droid as cute as BB-8 in the Star Wars universe so far, and we can't imagine how one could be cuter.
3. Kiros birds
The planet Kiros, seen in The Clone Wars animated series, has an adorable species of native bird. They look a lot like owls, and most species of owl are also cute, especially the little ones. Granted the fact that the Clone Wars was animated makes the creatures look extra adorable, as the fact that they don't look quite real is part of their adorableness, but with their round bodies and giant eyes, they look incredibly friendly. They're also quite intelligent, which means you can actually have a conversation with them too, which just adds to the fun Star Wars characters can have.
2. Porgs
Porgs are the newest edition to the alien species list of the Star Wars universe. While we don't know much about them, they look like space guinea pigs and are native the planet Ahch-To, where Rey found Luke Skywalker at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. They are fairly adorable with their fuzzy round bodies and gigantic eyes, though we have to say, their eyes look scarily vacant and we're not convinced they won't turn out to be demonic creatures, but we still want to give them a hug, even if we're not convinced they won't go for our neck.
1. Ewoks
Ultimately, there is no Star Wars creature more adorable than the classic Ewoks. They're like living teddy bears so of course, you want to snuggle up with them. The baby Ewoks are even more adorable than the adults. It's cute overload, but we're not complaining. Even when they're engaged in battle with a Stormtrooper army they look cute being dragged across the forest floor by Imperial walkers. Many fans are overly critical of the Ewoks place in Star Wars history simply because they're so bloody cute, but that frustration is exactly what puts them at the top of this list.
