More Dark Tower? Here's What Stephen King Says

Stephen King's magnum opus recently made its big screen debut and is still planning to build its universe on TV and in film. However, does that mean the original author is done with the story himself? During a recent Q&A, a fan asked Stephen King if he might grace his fans with one more Dark Tower story. His response was surprisingly unequivocal. It sounds very likely. Check it out.

Stephen King, very simply says, "yes, I think that might happen." However, if you listen to the way he says it, he makes it sound like it's probably going to happen. He says "might" in the way that the Russo Brothers say something might happen in a Marvel movie, they can't confirm it, but you can be pretty sure it's going to happen.

Of course, with the first Dark Tower movie having arrived in theaters, and plans for a TV series still moving forward, one has to wonder how a new Dark Tower book could impact the overall story. While it's true that the recent film was never meant to be a direct adaptation of the books, anything that adds detail or color to the overall story could still have an impact on future media. The word is that the TV series will be much more of a direct adaptation of the book Wizard and Glass. If a new book deals with the early days of Roland Deschain, it could potentially impact how that story is told.

Of course, it's also possible that a new Dark Tower story could have essentially zero impact on the overall saga. Stephen King actually published a Dark Tower book after his cycle was concluded once already. The Wind Through the Keyhole takes place within the events of the Dark Tower but is in large part a story within a story, a fairy tale told inside a flashback, and thus doesn't greatly impact the characters in any way.

At the same time, we know that Stephen King was involved in the adaptation of The Dark Tower for the big screen, and so it's possible that everybody involved in the massive adaptation already know what King has in mind, perhaps it's being incorporated into future concepts already.

The Dark Tower did not set the box office on fire when it was released this past August and while the franchise does appear to be moving forward, nobody is quite sure what the future of it all really is. Will there even be more Dark Tower movies? That is far from certain. On the plus side, however, if there are no more movies, Tower junkies may have a new story to read at some point down the road.
