What Ray Fisher Wants To See In Cyborg's Solo Movie

Cyborg crying in Justice League

We're approaching a very exciting time for DC fans. Because in just a week and a half, Zack Snyder's Justice League will finally arrive in theaters. The upcoming blockbuster will unite the DC trinity from Batman v Superman with newcomers like Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg. The latter will be played by actor Ray Fisher, who is also rumored to reprise his role in the upcoming Flashpoint film. And while Fisher seems to know which DCEU project will be his next appearance as the character, he's also become a bit chatty about his potential solo film. In particular, he wants the Cyborg film to not feature other characters, allowing him to stand on his own two robotic feet.

Things are in development. If I had my druthers, I think a Cyborg standalone would be a slightly more intimate story. One of the things that I always think is interesting with these sort of universes, is whenever there's a world threatening crisis, it always makes you wonder, 'Where are the other members of the group? Why didn't they show up?' I think finding an organic way to explain why these characters have to have their solo mission.

Ray Fisher's comments to Comic Book bring up a few issues. First, he seems to understand fans' excitement for team-up films and crossovers. And he gets that its somewhat illogical for heroes to have their own solo movies once they join a team like The Avengers or The Justice League. But Fisher also seems to think that Cyborg deserves a film untethered from the rules of the DCEU and its characters; two great points about the genre.

After all, the DCEU's only critical acclaimed film did just that. Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman was set back in WWI, allowing the narrative to exist without the ramifications of a shared universe. Instead, Jenkins could focus on the origin story that made Diana into the hero we all know and love. This seems to be Ray Fisher's hopes for the Cyborg movie. If the writers can find a logical reason to isolate him from the rest of The League, then maybe Fisher will be able to lead the film as the only superheroic character.

Then again, it seems like the DCEU is a crossover-heavy place. Suicide Squad, while focused on the titular group of villains, still managed to squeeze in cameos by both Batman and The Flash. And with Flashpoint bringing in both Cyborg and Wonder Woman, solo movies might not be the game plan for DC. Then again, Wonder Woman 2 will probably follow a similar method as its predecessor, so anything is possible.

Ray Fisher will make his official debut as Cyborg in Justice League. The film is arriving in theaters on November 17th, and you can pre-order your tickets here. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your trips to the movies in the New Year.
