New Wrinkle In Time Trailer Is A Beautiful, Trippy Wonder

It was all the way back in July that audiences got their first look at Ava Duvernay's highly-anticipated adaptation of A Wrinkle In Time, but with the film still in the midst of post-production, it didn't get to feature the full spectacle and wonder that the big screen adventure promises. Fortunately, the movie has since been completed and is just a few months away from release, and we now have a brand new stunning trailer to celebrate that fact. Check it out below!

Ava Durvernay's career as a director started with a bang, directing the critically-acclaimed Selma in 2014 - and while A Wrinkle In Time is extremely different material, it looks like she has created an incredible spectacle. This footage does a great job not only setting up the cool sci-fi story, but also shows off the amazing ensemble cast that the blockbuster has collected.

Based on the classic novel from 1963, A Wrinkle In Time tells the story of Meg Murry (Storm Reid), a young girl who is still reeling months after the disappearance of her genius astrophysicist father (Chris Pine). Her story completely changes, however, when she discovers that her father isn't actually dead, but instead being kept as a prisoner on a distant planet. Along with her genius younger brother, Charles (Deric McCabe), and her classmate, Calvin (Levi Miller), Meg goes off on an interstellar journey to battle a dangerous evil - in the process finds the assistance of three peculiar astral travelers: Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), and Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling).

Studios and filmmakers have been trying to crack a big screen adaptation of this story for years now, but given the incredible visuals on display here, it seems like waiting until now was really the best option. A Wrinkle In Time is a movie that requires a lot of digital effects to bring to life, and the technology a decade ago really just isn't where it is now. Most importantly, waiting until now means that Ava Durvernay had the chance to make it a film of her own, and it appears that she is executing a special vision here.

A Wrinkle In Time, which co-stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Pena, Zach Galifianakis and more in addition to all the names mentioned above, is set up to become one of the biggest movies of early 2018. One week after they plan to have Ryan Coogler's Black Panther in theaters, Disney will be launching the fantasy/sci-fi feature in theaters on March 9, 2018. It's easily one of our most anticipated upcoming projects here on CinemaBlend, so stay tuned for more of our coverage in the coming months!
