The 9 Most Likely Superheroes To Join The Justice League In Future Movies

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice may have finally brought the Trinity together, but it was Justice League that finally introduced DC Comics' most famous superhero team to the silver screen. Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg came together to battle Steepnwolf and his Parademon minions, and Superman later joined them once he'd calmed down from being resurrected. These six now stand together as the ultimate line of defense against those who wish to destroy humanity.

When Bruce Wayne, Diana Prince and Alfred Pennyworth were inside Wayne Manor discussing how they would turn the gigantic house into the Justice League's headquarters, Diana mentioned that there would be "room for more" at the meeting table. Taking her foreshadowing into account, we've gathered some worthy candidates who should join the team, be it in Justice League 2 or another movie.

Green Lantern

Green Lantern

Green Lantern is typically a founding member of the Justice League in most stories, but aside from a few Lanterns participating in the battle against Steppenwolf thousands of years ago, the Justice League movie wasn't illuminated by the emerald light. The Green Lantern Corps will introduce Hal Jordan and John Stewart into the DCEU, and ideally that movie will explain why neither of them, nor one of their fellow Lanterns, showed up to help Earth's superheroes thwart Steppenwolf's second invasion. Regardless, whenever the Justice League opens their ranks, you wouldn't be foolish putting money on Green Lantern being one of the new recruits, if not the first one they approach. As for which human Green Lantern will join the team, Hal would be the likeliest candidate given that he helps form the team in the comics, but given that John Stewart was a founding Justice Leaguer in the Cartoon Network animated series, we shouldn't rule him out of the running.

Shazam

Shazam

Most kids dream of being a superhero, and in 2019, Billy Batson will have that dream fulfilled in the Shazam movie. Although Shazam (or Captain Marvel if you prefer) has teamed with most of the Justice Leaguers in the comics numerous times, it wasn't until post-Forever Evil in the New 52 that he finally became a regular member of the team, and even that tenure was relatively short-lived. Nevertheless, with Shazam being the next major superhero to be introduced to the DCEU, it stands to reason that when the cinematic Justice League starts to expand, the World's Mightiest Mortal will be put into consideration. However, it would be interesting to see if the heroes changed their tune upon learning that it's actually a 10-year-old who's been fighting the likes of Doctor Sivana.

Martian Manhunter

Martian Manhunter

Like Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter was usually depicted as one of the founding members of the Justice League for decades. That changed with the New 52, where Cyborg took Martian Manhunter's place, and the DCEU decided to follow suit with this lineup change. Martian Manhunter is currently a main character on the Supergirl TV series, but after being a prominent DC Comics hero for over 60 years, it's about time that he make his live action theatrical debut. With special abilities like super strength, flight, shapeshifting and phasing, Martian Manhunter would be another great heavy-hitter for the team. His inclusion also allows for a Justice League sequel to potentially explore the DC Martian mythology, where, like Superman, J'onn J'onzz is the last of his kind.

Green Arrow

Green Arrow

Green Arrow has been enjoying popularity in the television world since Arrow dropped on The CW in 2012, but the time has come for us to see the Emerald Archer lend his talents to the DCEU. It's no secret that Arrow's version of Oliver Queen is quite similar to Batman, so it would be especially important for the cinematic Green Arrow to take cues from how the character has typically been represented in the comics since the late 1960s: a goateed, liberal crusader for the disadvantaged. Like Batman, he's just a man fighting the forces of evil with his own natural skills and deep resources, but in addition to standard crimefighting, he also wants to promote sweeping social change. Those who watched Justice League Unlimited might remember Batman telling Green Arrow that they recruited him to the team to keep them honest. The same principle would apply in this universe.

Black Canary

Black Canary

Black Canary started out as a member of the Justice Society, but as the decades have passed, her more notable team connections have been the Justice League and the Birds of Prey. While the latter group would make good adversaries for the Gotham City Sirens, their existence in the DCEU hasn't been confirmed yet. Until that happens, it'd be wise for the Justice Leaguers to look at Black Canary for recruitment. While it would be great to have her paired with Green Arrow like they frequently are in the comics, Dinah Laurel Lance's formidable fighting skills and sonic Canary Cry are more than enough to qualify her for the team. The character has had a rocky history on Arrow, so let's see if DC's film universe would have better luck adapting her.

Hawkman

Hawkman

Hawkman has one of the most convoluted histories in DC Comics history. In some stories he's the latest reincarnation of an ancient Egyptian prince, in other stories he's an alien police officer from the planet Thanagar, and sometimes it's a mix of both! Regardless, the mace-wielding hero has been connected to the Justice League for five decades, and since Suicide Squad's main action took place in his hometown, Midway City, Justice League 2 could easily introduce him as that metropolis' defender who is ready to spread his wings, so to speak. And we'd obviously welcome if he was joined by Hawkgirl. After all, she was a founding Justice Leaguer in the Cartoon Network animated series, and since Legends of Tomorrow isn't using either of those characters anymore, why not see how they would fit in with this superhero team?

Mera in Justice League

Mera

Although Mera has been part of the Aquaman mythos since 1963, it's only been in the modern era that she's started to regularly fight villains either alongside her husband or on her own. As seen in Justice League, not only can Amber Heard's Mera breathe underwater like regular Atlantans, but she can also manipulate water with her mind. Mera is currently a member of the Justice League in the DC Rebirth continuity, so there's precedence for including her in the DCEU's League. It remains to be seen what's in store for Mera in next year's Aquaman movie, but assuming she survives those events, Arthur Curry should strongly consider bringing her into the fold. As far as I know, there's nothing in the League rulebook stating that two water-themed superheroes can't be serving at the same time.

Mister Miracle and Big Barda

Mister Miracle And Big Barda

One is an escape artist who is Highfather's son, but was traded to Darkseid during a peace settlement. The other was one of Apokolips' fierceest warriors, but has since turned her back on that hellish world. Both are New Gods, and they come as a package deal. Justice League touched on the Fourth World mythology through Steppenwolf and the Parademons, but there's so much more that can be explored in other movies. If Justice League 2 decides to feature Darkseid as its main antagonist, then that presents the perfect opportunity to have Mister Miracle and Big Barda come to Earth and assist the Justice League with fighting him. Both of them are affiliated with the League in the comics, and while we wouldn't expect them to become permanent members given how busy they are in the Fourth World corner of the universe, it would nonetheless be nice to have some benevolent New Gods added to their ranks.
