There's An Alien Version Of Carrie Fisher's Dog In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

There are few celebrities as iconic as the late, great Carrie Fisher. In addition to her work as Leia in the Star Wars franchise, Fisher was an irreverent voice in pop culture, using both stage plays and memoirs to share her sardonic message to as many people as possible. While doing the press rounds for J.J. Abrams' The Force Awakens, she often went viral for her bonkers and hilarious interviews, as well as the adorable (albeit lazy) dog Gary that she brought along to her press opportunities. Ahead of the release of The Last Jedi, fans began to wonder if a certain dog-sized alien in the background of a production still might actually be a heavily CGI'd Gary. You can see the photo in question below.

Gary in The Last Jedi

While the cute creature is definitely out of this world, it is roughly the same size as the beloved Gary the Dog. As this fan theory got more traction, one fan took to Twitter to ask Rian Johnson directly if Gary was in The Last Jedi. He answered with a resounding:

YES! Wow, good eyes.

That's right. Gary the Dog is making his film debut in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which will be his owner's final performance as Leia Organa. So while the upcoming blockbuster will already carry a special emotional weight for fans, it's even more touching that Carrie Fisher got to have her beloved dog included in the fun as well.

Of course, this isn't the only member of Carrie Fisher's family that will show up when The Last Jedi arrives in theaters in a week or so. Her daughter, actress Billie Lourd, will also be in the film, reprising her role as Lieutenant Connix. She had one quick line in The Force Awakens, and will reportedly have a larger role in the upcoming sequel. And with Fisher no longer able to continue her role in J.J. Abrams' Episode IX, perhaps Connix will br even more important in the third installment of the new trilogy.

Gary's rise to fame came largely from Carrie Fisher's interview with Good Morning America ahead of release of The Force Awakens. You can catch the star making moment below:

Seriously, how could he NOT go viral and get his own Twitter account?

Fans of Gary (aka everyone) can check out his silver screen debut when Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in theaters December 15th.
