New Star Wars: The Last Jedi Video Is All About Creating The New Worlds

You can't have a Star Wars movie without some vibrant and beautiful landscapes for the heroes and villains to move through. From the sandy dunes of Tatooine and Jakku to the sprawling cities of Coruscant, every single Star Wars film has constructed a series of fantastic locations in which to tell its stories. It looks like Star Wars: The Last Jedi is no different, as a new behind-the-scenes featurette just debuted at Brazil's Comic-Con Experience 2017, and it shows us how director Rian Johnson and his crew created the bizarre landscapes of the film. Check it out below to see for yourself.

As we already noted earlier, the Star Wars franchise has long been known for its beautiful worlds. That said, this video shows just how much effort Rian Johnson and his crew have put into making sure that Star Wars: The Last Jedi looks like something wholly unique and original for the franchise. Locales like the endlessly opulent Canto Bight and the barren Crait feels like perfect fits for what fans would typically expect from this type of film, but they also seem new enough to push the boundaries of what's possible in the Star Wars galaxy. Last, but not least, we end the video on Skellig Michael in Ireland to get a closer look at Luke Skywalker's home amongst the Porgs on Ahch-To. Seriously, can this beautiful-looking movie just debut already?

Of course, because we're die-hard fans and we will stop at nothing to learn more about Star Wars: The Last Jedi before it finally debuts, it goes without saying that we have looked through every frame for some concrete plot details about how this movie will eventually play out. Alas, like so many other elements of the film's marketing campaign, we still cannot pick out any significant plot details. Everyone at Disney and Lucasfilm has endeavored to keep this project under tight wraps, and thus far it looks like they have been incredibly successful.

One of the most exciting things to note about this video is the fact that Star Wars: The Last Jedi seems to have continued the embrace of practical locations that we saw in The Force Awakens -- such as the use of Dubrovnik, Croatia to stand in for Canto Bight. While the prequel trilogy is often accused of overusing green screen and fake locations to construct its set pieces, the newer era of Star Wars movies has endeavored to blend digital and practical effects to create settings that look otherworldly, while still maintaining a tactile sense that people live there.

We will get to see all of these fantastic locations come to life when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15. Tickets for the long-awaited Star Wars sequel are currently available, so make sure to get yours now so that you will be able to see Episode VIII in all of its Star Wars glory on opening weekend!
