The DC Superhero Zachary Levi Wants To Cameo In Shazam

Wonder Woman in Justice League

After spending the better part of a decade in development, the Shazam movie is finally speeding towards production. Since last October, we've been hit with numerous casting announcement, which kicked off when Zachary Levi was recruited to play the World's Mightiest Mortal. Much like many of the upcoming DC Extended Universe movies, Shazam will be a standalone story, showing why the eponymous hero is special without having to share the limelight with anyone else. However, that doesn't necessarily mean we couldn't see another DC superhero pop up in Shazam or a potential sequel, and Levi is especially interested to see Billy Batson interact with Wonder Woman on the big screen. The actor explained:

Wonder Woman, because she's awesome. I think getting a cameo from anybody would be super cool, but I just think Gal Gadot is so effervescent. She has such a charm. And she seems like a really cool broad. Like, she was in the Israeli army. She's a mom. And I'm like, 'You seem like you're grounded and cool, and you're Wonder Woman, and you rock.' And I think it would be really funny to have the 14-year-old Billy Batson inside of Shazam that's really awkward around this beautiful Amazonian. I just think that would be really awesome.

While there's been no word yet on any other superhero showing up in Shazam, with production beginning next month, it's entirely possible that director David F. Sandberg could find a way to fit a Wonder Woman cameo into the story. But even if that doesn't happen, the kind of scene Zachary Levi laid out while speaking with Collider sounds intriguing. Wonder Woman and Shazam have been longtime allies in the comics, and while we wouldn't expect these two to spend nearly as much time with one another in this cinematic world, it would still be great to see an interaction between them somewhere in the DCEU, especially now that Wonder Woman has publicly debuted as a superhero following Justice League. Billy Batson's adolescent awkwardness mixed with Diana's regality would make for an amusing encounter.

It remains to be seen whether or not Zachary Levi's wish will be granted and Wonder Woman and Shazam will meet in the DCEU, but at least the future's looking bright for Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot is already lined up to star in Wonder Woman 2 (which is rumored to be another prequel), and she's also reportedly appearing in Flashpoint. As for Shazam, while no specific plot details have been revealed yet, the movie will show how the young Billy Batson obtained the ability to become a mighty adult superhero by just saying the magic word.

Shazam will work its magic in theaters sometime in 2019, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates on how it's developing.
