The Greatest Showman Is Getting Sing-A-Long Screenings, Because Why Not?

Hugh Jackman as PT Barnum in The Greatest Showman

For those of you who have been looking for more lighthearted fare in your theatrical experiences lately, The Greatest Showman is a movie that's being hyped as something that will put a spring in your step and a smile on your face. The musical drama about P.T. Barnum forming his circus has been out since December 20, and so far it's made over $163 million worldwide. Now after several weeks of conventional screenings, 20th Century Fox announced that starting today in select theaters, The Greatest Showman will be screened as a sing-a-long. That seems appropriate.

From now until the end of next week, if you itching to see The Greatest Showman and live near one of 300 select theaters in the United States (you can see if you're nearby any of them at The Greatest Showman website), then you can experience the movie with all of the song lyrics displayed on the bottom of the screen. Even better, this means you'll be able to belt out the same tunes as Hugh Jackman and the gang, and no one will give you a weird look like they would at almost every other theatrical presentation. Just be warned that one of the side effects of experiencing The Greatest Showman in this format is it'll be even likelier that those songs will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

This isn't the first time a big movie has received the sing-a-long treatment in theaters, as Disney previously did it with Frozen and Moana. Nevertheless, for The Greatest Showman, it's a big deal. The movie's songs were written by Justin Paul and Benj Pasek, the same lyricists who wrote La La Land's tunes with Justin Hurtwitz and won an Oscar for their work. They've had great success with The Greatest Showman as well, as the movie's soundtrack currently ranks #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and has reached #1 on iTunes in over 60 countries. It's only appropriate that with such well-received songs, The Greatest Showman can be enjoyed as a sing-a-long in theaters.

The Greatest Showman stars Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, Zac Efron as Phillip Carlyle, Zendaya as Anne Wheeler, Michelle Williams as Charity Barnum and Rebecca Ferguson as Jenny Lind, among others. Although overall critical reception towards The Greatest Showman has been mixed, it did receive awards attention most recently at the Golden Globes, where it was nominated for Best Motion Picture --- Musical or Comedy, Best Actor --- Musical or Comedy (Hugh Jackman) and Best Original Song --- Motion Picture.
