How Chris Hemsworth Feels About His Marvel Contract Ending

Thor in the Infinity War trailer

We're coming up on a particularly exciting time at The Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following Ryan Coogler's Black Panther, almost the entire cast of the shared universe will unite for bothAvengers: Infinity War, and the untitled Avengers 4 film. A handful of MCU stars' contracts are up after the fourth Avengers movie, leading many to wonder about the MCU's future. One of these stars is Chris Hemsworth, who recently got to chance up his signature character in Thor: Ragnarok. He's recently opened up his feelings about his contract, saying:

Contractually, right now --- yeah, this is it. I'm done. I won't be playing the character again. It's sort of a scary thought. This really seemed like this never-ending thing. And now it's potentially finishing.

What. A. Bummer. While it looks like Chris Hemsworth is officially off the hook over at Marvel Studios, perhaps a new deal will be made that will allow his version of Thor to live on on the silver screen.

Chris Hemsworth's comments to USA Today confirm that his contract with Marvel is up, although that isn't necessarily the end of his character Thor. Depending on what happens during the next two Avengers movies, Hemsworth and his agents have the potential to re-negotiate a new deal to facilitate a possible return for Thor 4 and beyond. Hemsworth seems happy with where his character is going, and he would no doubt be happy with the possibility to squeeze some extra money out of the behemoth studio.

Indeed, Thor: Ragnarok was the most popular and successful movie from his franchise to date, so Chris Hemsworth may want to ride the wave and see where else Thor and his buddies could be taken. Ragnarok was a Thor movie that abandoned the majority of the franchise's characters, and brought the God of Thunder to the world of Sakaar. The film was far more funny than its predecessors, allowing Hemsworth to use more of his comedy skills and charm for Thor.

Director Taika Waititi has also expressed interest in possibly returning to the Thor franchise, which would be another major incentive for Chris Hemsworth and Marvel Studios to strike another deal. If the duo could manage to recreate the magic of Ragnarok, then perhaps the God of Thunder won't be going anywhere.

With Avengers 4 marking the end of many actors' contracts, fans have been wondering which fan-favorite characters will be getting killed off. The two biggest candidates are Iron Man and Captain America, as Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have both had long runs in the MCU. And with a Black Widow movie potentially in the works, it looks like Scarlett Johansson's character may be spared. (Of course, that's dependent on the timeline of that film, too.)

You can catch Chris Hemsworth in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your trips to the movies this year.
