How Tom Hiddleston Felt Watching The Avengers: Infinity War Trailer

Loki holding the Tesseract in Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel fans have known about Avengers: Infinity War's existence since October 2014, and last November, the first trailer for the highly-anticipated blockbuster was finally released to the masses (though those lucky enough to the Marvel presentations at D23 and/or San Diego Comic-Con were treated to sneak peeks months beforehand). Like a proper teaser, the first Infinity War trailer didn't give too much away story-wise, but it did do a good job of passing along the enormous scale of the movie, especially by highlighting many of the characters who will be involved. One of those players is Tom Hiddleston's Loki, and Hiddleston recently commended how the Infinity War trailer looked, as it made him recall when Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige first told him just how big he wanted the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be. In Hiddleston's words:

It looks very impressive, doesn't it? It's very exciting. And I found it quite, and this is an odd thing to say, I found it quite touching because I remember, when I was cast as Loki for the very first time, almost 10 years ago, and Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, called me into his office to say congratulations, and one of the first things he said was, 'Let me talk to you about Avengers.' And I thought I had just been cast in Thor. And he's told me the dream he had to build this fleet of films, this Marvel Cinematic Universe that was culminating in Avengers. And suddenly the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been expanded to such an extraordinary size that it can encompass and encapsulate so many different characters who people have taken to their hearts and followed and loved, whether it's all the people from the Captain America films or the Guardians of the Galaxy. It's become so peopled now. It's just so impressive, and I say that almost outside it. And I feel so lucky to be a part of it. That's why I found it exciting.

The MCU has come a long way since Tom Hiddleston debuted as Loki in 2011's Thor, and with four appearances as the Asgardian God of Mischief already under his belt, Hiddleston has the fortunate of being one cog in the giant machine that is Avengers: Infinity War. While this won't be the last movie in Phase Three, Infinity War does mark the beginning of the end for not just this Phase, but for the MCU as we know it since it began in 2008 with Iron Man. It's unquestionably an important movie, and as Hiddleston said on The Empire Film Podcast, he was impressed by how the Infinity War trailer reminded him of how much the MCU has grown, which he appreciates both as one of its many actors and as a fan.

Warning: SPOILERS for Thor: Ragnarok are ahead!

At the end of Thor: Ragnarok, Loki joined Thor, Valkyrie, Hulk, Korg, Miek and all of Asgardian's rescued citizens aboard the Grandmaster's ship and hightailed it out of Asgard before Surtur destroyed the civilization. However, as the Avengers: Infinity War trailer confirmed, before Asgard was destroyed, Loki retrieved the Tesseract, a.k.a. the Space Stone, from Odin's treasure room. The Infinity War trailer showed that Thanos, whose ship intercepted Thor, Loki and the gang in the Ragnarok mid-credits scene, will eventually obtain the Space Stone, and it looks like Loki will be handing it over to him directly. However, it remains to be seen if Loki will ally himself with Thanos again or if he'll try to pull one over on the Mad Titan, the latter option potentially resulting in his death.
