Maisie Williams Responds To New Mutants Reshoot Rumors

Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane in The New Mutants

It's no secret that comic book movies are everywhere. With three shared universes currently producing new installments, there is no shortage of superheroic properties making their way to theaters. Because of this, critics fear "superhero fatigue" where the genre becomes so saturated that they blend together and become stale. In response, filmmakers are creating new and exciting superhero projects. Case in point: Josh Boone's The New Mutants, which will be a horror movie set within the X-Men universe. Fans are eager to see the blockbuster arrive in theaters, although it's recently been a number of months, leading to rumors that extensive reshoots are happening. But Maisie Williams has recently shot down those rumors, revealing she only has some ADR to do on the film. Regarding the rumors, she said:

I think everything you've just rattled off is just rumors. But we're releasing early next year and I'm properly excited. I've seen little parts of it and I've done a load of ADR for it and it's really exciting watching it all back. It feels a long while since we've done it, and I always enjoy going seeing little bits of it before it's released, so I'm looking forward to it coming out.

Arya Stark has spoken, and she's not mincing words. It looks like the rumors about New Mutants were untrue, and Maisie Williams is fairly removed from the project in general at this point.

Maisie Williams' comments address rumors of reshoots head on, which should help ease fans anxiety about The New Mutants. While the film's first trailer is outstanding and helped amp up excitement, Fox's adjusted release schedule threw a wrench into things. New Mutants was originally set to debut in a few months on April 13, 2018. But when the shuffle happened, the upcoming mutant-focused thriller ended up being delayed a year, arriving February 22, 2019. With almost a year in between dates, this led some fans to believe that extensive reshoots were happening, a la DC's Justice League. Other reports indicate that it was simply so the scary X-men movie wouldn't overlap at all with Deadpool 2.

Alas, Maisie Williams has shot down rumors, revealing she only has a bit of ADR left to do on the film before she's officially done with production. For those unfamiliar, ADR is basically voice over work that actors do during the film's editing process. This can help poor audio be fixed, and additional off camera lines can be added as well. But the Game of Thrones actress doesn't have any plans to return to set.

Fans are eager to see what Maisie Williams does with Wolfsbane, a mutant who transforms into a wolf. With Williams now a member of the X-Men universe, many Game of Thrones are hoping she crosses over and interact with Sophie Turner's Jean Grey. Seeing the two Stark girls kicking ass in a different property would be too much fun, so let's keep our fingers crossed that it happens.

The New Mutants will arrive in theaters February 22, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
