With Thanos and his Black Order coming to Earth next month, The Avengers will need all of the help that they can get. With that need for heroes in mind, the promotional material for Avengers: Infinity War has left many fans wondering where Jeremy Renner's Clint "Hawkeye" Barton is during all of this chaos and destruction. We still don't know what to expect from the eagle-eyed archer during the upcoming blockbuster, but the Avengers: Infinity War Prelude comic seems to suggest that his first order of business post-Captain America: Civil War was to return to his family and retire once more.
The Avengers: Infinity War Prelude comic has offered up a look at the finale of Captain America: Civil War and fleshed it out even further. According to the comic, when Steve Rogers showed up to rescue his Team Cap allies from The Raft, everyone went their separate ways, with some going into hiding, and others going on new missions. The two fathers of the team (Scott Lang and Clint Barton) returned to their homes, as Clint seemingly decided to stay with the wife and children introduced during the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
With that said, one thing not explicitly laid out by the Avengers: Infinity War Prelude comic's story (via Comicbook.com) is where the events of Avengers: Infinity War will take Clint Barton. Although he has not appeared in any of the marketing material for the movie, Jeremy Renner has teased some fascinating (albeit sparse) glimpses at a possible new suit for Hawkeye. Moreover, he has also teased a possible new identity as Ronin, which means that he is likely not going to remain on the sidelines for the remainder of his tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It's possible that Clint will already be back in action by the time Infinity War begins, or something drastic could happen during that ultimately forces his hand and requires him to ditch his retirement once more. This could be the death of an Avenger or even the death of a loved one, but no matter what, we already know that Hawkeye will also appear in Avengers 4, which means Marvel Studios is likely playing the long game with the character.
Audiences will get a chance to catch up with all of The Avengers when Avengers: Infinity War makes its way to theaters on its new (and improved?) premiere date on April 27.
