Wonder Woman 2 Has Added A Game Of Thrones Star

Pedro Pascal in Game of Thrones

Last year didn't lack for superhero movies, but one of the biggest winners from that genre was Wonder Woman. Following her debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gal Gadot reprised Diana of Themyscira for her origin story, which saw the heroine attempting to put an early end to World War I. With Wonder Woman receiving critical acclaim and making over $820 million worldwide, it's no wonder DC and Warner Bros greenlighted a sequel. Production on Wonder Woman 2 is set to begin later this year, and the latest actor to be joining that shoot is Narcos star Pedro Pascal.

Variety reports that Pedro Pascal has signed on for Wonder Woman 2, though no details about who he is playing were revealed aside from it being a key role. This will be Pascal's second collaboration with director Patty Jenkins; the two of them previously worked together on the TV movie Exposed. Pascal is the third actor who's been announced to appear in Wonder Woman 2, following behind Gal Gadot (obviously) reprising Diana and Kristen Wiig as Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva, a.k.a. The Cheetah.

Pedro Pascal has been acting for over 20 years, with his earlier work including recurring/guest spots on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, three Law & Order shows and The Good Wife. However, arguably his breakthrough performance was as Oberyn Martell, a.k.a. the Red Viper, in Game of Thrones Season 4. Following his time on the HBO series, he was cast as Javier Peña in Netflix's Narcos, which he starred on for three seasons. Pescal's big screen resume include The Great Wall and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and along with Wonder Woman 2, his upcoming cinematic appearances include The Equalizer 2 and the movie formerly known as Triple Frontier. Fun fact, Pascal also starred in the 2011 Wonder Woman TV pilot that was never picked up to series.

As for who Pedro Pascal might be playing in Wonder Woman 2, that's hard to say. While no official plot details have been revealed yet, rumor has it that the sequel will be set in the 1980s, right as the Cold War is winding down. If Wonder Woman 2's story does indeed have a spy twist, Pascal could be a good fit for Tom Tresser, a.k.a. Nemesis, who has ties to the Suicide Squad and became friends with Diana in the comics. Given Cheetah's presence in Wonder Woman 2, I also wonder if Pescal could play Urzkartaga, the deity responsible for giving Barbara Ann Minerva her powers. Who knows, maybe Pascal's character could somehow be Steve Trevor's descendants! Whoever his character is, it sounds like we can expect him to be a major part of the movie.

Wonder Woman 2 hits theaters on November 1, 2019. In the meantime, check out our DC movies guide to see what else this franchise has in the pipeline, including Aquaman this December and Shazam! in April 2019.
