New Hawkeye Update For Avengers: Infinity War Is Just What Fans Want To Hear

Excitement over things at the Marvel Cinematic Universe is at a fever pitch. While Black Panther continues to rake in cash at the box office, the entire universe as we know has been leading up to The Russo Brothers' Avengers: Infinity War. Set to arrive in a matter of weeks, the upcoming blockbuster will unite all the major characters of the shared universe for an epic battle against Josh Brolin's Thanos. While fans are eager for new character pairings and crossovers, there is one OG Avenger who has been noticeably missing from nearly all of the promotional material: Hawkeye. Fan have taken umbrage with this, and have been hounding the Russo Brothers and everyone else involved in the movie about the archer. Now they've gotten more chatty about his role, with Joe Russo sharing:

We keep saying, 'Patience is a virtue.' We did not forget the twice-nominated Jeremy Renner. We cooked up a story for him that is a little bit of a long play. Not a short play.

This is interesting. It seems like Clint Barton is going to be apart some significant through line, therefore giving him an arc in the overall narrative of the war. If you ask me, it sounds like he'll become a bigger presence in Avengers 4.

Joe Russo's coments to Joe.ie are sure to be a relief for many Marvel fans, as it confirms that Hawkeye will get his time in the limelight during _Avengers: Infinity Wa_r. Because the character has been left out of so many trailers and character posters, many wondered if he'd even be apart of the project at all. The Russo Brothers have plans for both the character and the actor, but the question is: what are they?

Hawkeye has always been a character that never really got a chance to drive the narrative of the MCU. He's only been a supporting role in the Avengers movies, but he's yet to have a big part of any of the individual franchises. We got a glimpse of his secret home life in Age of Ultron, but he's probably the Avenger with the least to do in the overall shared universe. Hopefully The Russo Brothers are planning to change that with the next two movies, although something tells me he won't have a ton of screen time in Avengers: Infinity War.

Indeed, Joe Russo's indication that Hawkeye's plot is a 'long play' seems to indicate it'll pay off in Avengers 4. The Brothers had previously teased that the two films will balance the large ensemble of characters, and those in the background of Infinity War would therefore come to the front lines in the next movie. We'll just have to see how it all shakes out.

Avengers: Infinity War will arrive on April 27th, complete with Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
