New Star Wars Story Explains What Happens After The Last Jedi

Poe and Rey Star Wars: The Last Jedi

For the most part, Star Wars fans will have to wait about a year and a half to learn what happens after Star Wars: The Last Jedi. However, a brand new Star Wars story will show us what happened after the recent film ended. A brand new comic focusing on the character of Poe Dameron will mostly be a flashback to Poe's time off screen during Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but it will open immediately after Star Wars: The Last Jedi with our three main characters, Rey, Finn, and Poe, all sitting down and talking for the first time ever.

As Star Wars: The Last Jedi came to a close the Resistance had been nearly completely destroyed. What's left of the organization is now so small that the entire thing can fit inside the Millennium Falcon, as they do in the film's final moments.

The comic, called simply Poe Dameron will release its 26th issue on April 18, but a few of the pages have already been released (via 13th Dimension) and they show the book opening with all of our heroes, including BB-8, sitting around the table of the Millennium Falcon and talking. In fact, the conversation opens with Poe bringing up the fact that he and Rey had never actually met up to this point.

Rather than discussing what's next, the trio talk about how this all got started, with Rey taking down Finn after believing he had stolen the jacket he was wearing. Finn remarks that Poe had never explained exactly what had happened to him after he survived the TIE Fighter crash on Jakku or how he'd made it off the planet in the first place. This leads to a flashback sequence with Poe and General Leia where she gives him the orders to go pick up the map on Jakku. It appears the rest of the book will follow the early events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens from Poe's perspective, including parts of the story where the character was off-screen.

While this small moment of all of our main characters together isn't much, it's actually really nice to see them together. We've been following these characters for two movies now, and Rey and Poe only actually met in those closing moments of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It's nice to just see the three of them enjoying some downtime, which is something that there has been precious little of up to this point.

Poe Dameron #26 hits your local comic shop this week, so check it out if you want to get the backstory on Poe and see the Star Wars heroes talking together for the first time.
