Looks Like Aquaman Has A New Costume In His Solo Movie

Last year's Justice League set the stage for the next chapter of the DC Extended Universe, and the next superhero we'll see from this franchise on the silver screen is Aquaman. After helping Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Cyborg defeat Steppenwolf and his Parademon army, Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry decided to leave his solitary life behind and travel back to Atlantis to embrace his royal heritage. We'll see how that turns out this winter in the Aquaman movie, and for his first standalone adventure, it looks like Aquaman will be sporting some new duds.

The Licensing Expo is currently underway in Las Vegas, and as you can see in the above photo, Jason Momoa is sporting a brand-new Aquaman costume right next to Zachary Levi's Shazam casually sipping a beverage. We're only seeing the upper half of this new suit, but it's definitely keeping with the armor approach to his superhero look. However, while Aquaman's armor in Justice League was gold with dark green scaling, this plating looks more orange, which calls back to Arthur's trademark orange shirt that he wears in the comics. Since the bright orange covering wouldn't play well in a movie setting, it looks like Aquaman is treading the line between honoring the source material while still making sure that this version of Arthur Curry looks more like he's a properly-protected warrior compared to his comic book counterpart.

With seven months still to go until Aquaman's release, we still haven't learned any specific plot details, but the story will see Arthur Curry trying to prevent Atlantis from going to war with the surface dwellers. As if dealing with that and getting the hang of being king of an underwater civilization wasn't difficult enough, Arthur will also face two distinctive threats: his treacherous half-brother Orm, a.k.a. Ocean Master (played by Patrick Wilson), and the ruthless treasure hunter/mercenary Black Manta (played by Yahya Abdull-Mateen II). Aquaman is certainly no pushover, between rocking super strength and being able to communicate with aquatic life, as well as wielding a powerful trident, but even with those abilities and the help of allies like Mera, he'll have a lot to overcome for his first solo outing of the DCEU.

Directed by James Wan, written by Will Beall and produced by Peter Safran, Aquaman dives into theaters on December 21, though U.K. fans will get to watch it one week earlier.
