Friday The 13th Producer Explains Why We Haven't Gotten Another Movie Yet

Jason reaching for a victim

The horror genre is in a bit of a renaissance right now, with new and exciting properties being met with critical and box office acclaim. Get Out won an Oscar, and A Quiet Place has the potential to get some nominations this coming season as well. But classic franchises have always been at the genre's heart, which can be seen when Blumhouse releases a new Halloween this fall. With nostalgia proving infinitely popular, it seems like bringing back the likes of Friday the 13th would be a no brainer. Unfortunately, there seems to be some red tape in the way. Producer Andrew Form recently opened up about his attempts to bring Jason Voorhees back to the silver screen, saying:

There's a lawsuit going on and the rights are a little messed up. But rest assured, we are doing everything we can to be involved with that and we wholeheartedly believe that another version, another incarnation of Friday the 13th, needs to be made and brought out to the world, and we're gonna do everything we can to do it. Every year, we look at the schedule and say, 'When's the next Friday the 13th? When can we have a movie ready?' We love Jason and we hope we can make another one.

While Jason's bloodlust hasn't been curbed, he's been unable to rise from the dead due to the legality and rights of the franchise. Luckily, the villain is used to waiting and building his strength until he can unleash terror upon his teenage victims.

Andrew Form's comments to WeGotThisCovered may help the generations of Friday the 13th fans out there deal with their continued wait for another installment. The franchise is horror royalty, with Jason and his terrifying mother causing nightmares for kids and adults alike. And with no property off limits as the wave of nostalgia continues sweeping the entertainment world, horror fans have been hoping for Jason and his machete to return for another sequel.

While Andrew Form and company seem to be in the earliest stage of development for a new Friday the 13th movie, there's nothing concrete happening as of late. But Form isn't the only Friday figure who is hoping for another sequel in the near future. Actor Kane Hodder (who has played Jason for four movies) recently mentioned how the franchise is due for another sequel, especially as it will be the 13th film.

Unfortunately, the most recent attempt at a Friday the 13th movie ultimately ended up cancelled. It was reportedly shopped around to a few studios, and now it seems the franchise is trapped in logistical hell. We'll just have to wait and hope that the property finds the right home, and that Jason can once again return to the silver screen.

CinemaBlend will update you on the Friday the 13th franchise as new information becomes public. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
