Not Even Sophie Turner Knows What’s Happening With X-Men: Dark Phoenix’s Reshoots

Jean Grey in Apocalypse

While there are tons of cinematic universes and superhero movies being released, the X-Men franchise was ahead of the game, producing blockbusters way before Tony Stark changed the film world in Iron Man. Fox's mutant-centric property is still going strong, with Deadpool 2 recently released to rave reviews and tons of money. The next installment is X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which was recently pushed back a number of months in order to accommodate reshoots. Much of the film is a mystery, save for its focus on Sophie Turner's Jean Grey. Turner was recently asked about Dark Phoenix's reshoots, where she revealed she doesn't actually know what's coming next.

I think it's just a few bits and bobs, reshoot-wise. To be honest, I don't even know what we're reshooting at the moment. So I couldn't really tell you much about that one. All I know is that I'll be back in Montreal at some point soon, and that the Valentine's Day release date is quite a positive thing, because Black Panther got released on Valentine's Day. So we're keeping positive about it.

While a bit in the dark, it looks like Sophie Turner and the rest of the X-Men: Dark Phoenix cast are eager to make another superheroic adventure. Even if the the shoots are a mystery to everyone as of late.

Sophie Turner's comments to Digital Spy may make some X-Men fans out there nervous. While the general public is eager to glimmer any bits of information about Dark Phoenix, Turner seems similarly unclear about the film's future. Dark Phoenix is named after Jean Grey, yet the star herself doesn't know what is being reshot. But she seems to be taking it all in stride, as her role in the overall universe becomes more significant.

20th Century Fox made some serious scheduling changes, pushing back both The New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix several months. The latter went from a November release to February in order to accommodate its mysterious reshoots. This is likely a logistical nightmare, especially with both Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams hard at work with the final season of Game of Thrones.

The flip side of this scheduling change is that it allows X-Men audiences to fully digest Deadpool 2, and therefore have time to miss the franchise. With Solo: A Star Wars Story's box office performance negatively affected by its close proximity to The Last Jedi and other blockbusters, the X-Men franchise's brief hiatus may help keep anticipation high. As long as little teases and screenshots are released to satiate the fandom.

All will be revealed when X-Men: Dark Phoenix arrives in theaters on February 14, 2019, a year after the release of Marvel's Black Panther. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
