It's been clear from early on that the Venom movie would look very different compared to what fans of the comics are familiar with. Now we know why at least one major change was made. A trailer was shown to fans over this past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con which gave the audience a better look at the symbiote suit that Tom Hardy will wear in the film and it confirmed that the large white spider logo that is traditionally seen on the chest will not be there. As director Ruben Fleischer explains. the logo had to be removed, because the origin of this version of the character has nothing to do with Spider-Man, who is the reason the logo is there in the first place. If you look at the comics, in Venom, there is just elements of white within his suit. Because our character does not originate from Spider-Man, it makes no sense to put a spider on his chest. We tried to be as accurate as we possibly could, even though some people feel it's inaccurate, but there is a lot of white and we wanted to give him a distinctive pattern. ... If you have an all-black character, especially in night scenes, he just kind of disappears. Since we couldn't use the Spider-Man symbol, we wanted to give him another graphic element, and those veins that kind of form a shape on his chest was an original idea that we just thought looked really cool.
Traditionally, in the comics, as well as on the big screen once previously in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, Peter Parker is the first one to come across the alien symbiote and when it becomes part of him it becomes a black and white version of his classic Spider-Man outfit. Later, after Peter rids himself of the creature, it joins with another, but because of its previous experience, it gives its new host a bastardized version of the suit, including a large logo similar to that of Spider-Man.
However, since this Venom is being created through different means, utterly removed from Spider-Man as a character, director Ruben Fleischer explains to Comic Book Movie that it simply wouldn't make sense to give him the well-known logo. Therefore, rather than having it, the suit will look slightly different, forming a different sort of pattern. Since the suit will still be a combination of black and white, it will still be familiar to fans, even if it's not a comic perfect recreation.
Venom is certainly going to be something very different. How well it will work is anybody's guess but we'll find out later this year.
