A lot of folks fell at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Half of all life in the universe, to be precise, and Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man, was among the many who turned to dust after Thanos snapped his Infinity Stones-powered fingers. We have less than a year to go until Avengers 4 explains how he and everyone else who disappeared (well, the heroes at least) will be brought back, but two months after that, Spidey will return to the big screen in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Just like how Iron Man (and to a lesser extent, Captain America) appeared last year in Spider-Man: Homecoming, apparently Far From Home will include representation from another corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Nick Fury and Maria Hill will reportedly be involved in the story.
According to Vulture, Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders are reprising Nick Fury and Maria Hill, respectively, in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Interestingly enough, Jackson teased last month that he was reprising the present-day Nick Fury when he tagged a Fury-related Instagram post in the United Kingdom, which is where Far From Home is currently shooting, and now we have context. The report didn't provide any details on how Nick Fury and Maria Hill fit into Far From Home, but considering that these two, despite not being directly affiliated with S.H.I.E.L.D. anymore, have continued their spy work, it's not a stretch to imagine that they'll run into Peter Parker while he's vacationing in Europe. Nick Fury also has a mentor/fatherly-like relationship with Peter in the Ultimate Marvel universe, so perhaps the two might establish a similar dynamic in the MCU.
After aiding Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Age of Ultron, both Nick Fury and Maria Hill were both absent from the MCU until Avengers: Infinity War's post-credits scene, where the two were tracking what was happening in Wakanda when suddenly people started turning to dust around him thanks to a certain Mad Titan. Maria disappeared first and Nick followed suit seconds later, but not before he was able to transmit a distress signal from a spruced-up pager that displayed the Captain Marvel symbol. Next March's Captain Marvel movie will wind the clock back to the 1990s and show Nick meeting Carol Danvers and taking his first step into the world of superheroes and aliens. While it's not officially confirmed yet if Nick Fury and Maria Hill will be back for Avengers 4, Sebastian Stan indicated he'd performed in a scene with Samuel L. Jackson, and since they were shown at the end of Infinity War, there was a good chance Fury and Hill would be brought back for the follow-up tale. Regardless, thanks to this Spider-Man: Far From Home news, it looks like these two spy extraordinaires will have more to do following Phase 3's conclusion.
No specific plot information for Spider-Man: Far From Home has been disclosed to the public yet, but the sequel will see Tom Holland's iteration of the Web-Slinger battling Quentin Beck, a.k.a. Mysterio, with Jake Gyllenhaal being eyed for the role. Far From Home will also see Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Jacob Battalion, Tony Revolori and Hemky Madera reprising their respective roles, while J.B. Smoove, Numan Acar and Oli Hill have been cast as yet-to-be-revealed characters.
