There's A Rumor About Oscar Isaac And A Batman Role Going Around

Given the history of The Caped Crusader on the silver screen, it's hardly a surprise that Matt Reeves' The Batman has become one of the most talked-about projects on the DC slate. The War For The Planet Of The Apes director has slowly but surely put his story together, seemingly taking his time in the scripting stage. That said, it sounds like one piece of casting could potentially be on the horizon, as a new rumor has surfaced suggesting that Oscar Isaac has been approached for a possible role in the movie.

According to a new report from Omega Underground, there are rumors floating around the web suggesting that Warner Bros. has met with Oscar Isaac about a potential role in Matt Reeves' upcoming Batman movie. No concrete details have been confirmed just yet, but the rumors note that the Annihilation actor reportedly seems very interested in the role.

One other thing worth noting about this rumor is that there's no indication as to the nature of the role. It could be either a hero role or a villain role, either of which would suit Oscar Isaac's history in big budget franchises. As far as potential villainous characters are concerned, some recent rumors had suggested The Penguin could appear in the film, while other recent reports also confirmed that Black Mask would join the Gotham side of the DCEU in Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey. It's still unclear if either of these roles is where Oscar Isaac could be leaning (for all we know, he could be up to replace Ben Affleck as Batman if these rumors are even true), but the fact that an actor of his caliber could be interested in the upcoming film suggests something very exciting is on the way. Let's just keep our fingers crossed at this point.

All of this feeds into some exciting rumors that we have heard about The Batman in recent days. Though Matt Reeves has remained very tight-lipped about the film, earlier reports also suggested that the movie could take some important story cues from Frank Miller's Batman: Year One -- not unlike Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins.

For the moment, Oscar Isaac already has his hands full in another franchise. He's in the midst of production on Star Wars: Episode IX, which will debut in theaters next year on December 20, 2019. Moreover, his new film, Operation Finale, is set to hit theaters this weekend.

CinemaBlend will bring you more information related to The Batman (not to mention Oscar Isaac's potential involvement in the film, if these rumors are true) as further details surface.
