The Plan For Jurassic World 3, According To Bryce Dallas Howard

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Bryce Dallas Howard and Justice Smith look shocked on the island

Currently sitting at $1.3 billion, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is undeniably one of this summer's runaway box office hits. Now, as the film is currently available on all Digital platforms, and is awaiting its physical home release, those interested in the franchise are likely already looking ahead and wondering even more intensely about what wonders Jurassic World 3 is going to unveil when it's released in June of 2021. As it turns out, those thoughts are also running through the minds of the folks who will bring the movie to life, as Bryce Dallas Howard revealed what the third film in the trilogy will be setting its sights on during an interview with CinemaBlend. She said:

In terms of the third movie, the goal overall is to bring the entire saga together. It'll be the sixth film at the end of the day. For me, what I'm most wanting, other than an undercut, is for there to be more characters from the earlier films.

Speaking with Ms. Howard during a press day last week for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's home video release recently, the actress told me she's most excited to see the entire six-movie saga come together through the final film. As any Jurassic fan worth their salt will tell you, the breadcrumbs were laid out in a pretty tantalizing manner from the moment Jurassic World snuck in a couple copies of Dr. Ian Malcolm's God Creates Dinosaurs throughout Colin Trevorrow's 2015 blockbuster. By actually giving us an appearance by Dr. Malcolm, the table was only set for even more OG protagonists from Jurassic Park to appear in Jurassic World 3.

It makes even more sense to have this sort of plan in mind for the third, and possibly final, Jurassic World film, as Bryce Dallas Howard pointed out, Jurassic World 3 is the movie that will tie the history of the two trilogies together. So, just as the story of the sixth overall film in the Jurassic series will bring the franchise to the logical endpoint that it seems to have always been heading toward, it would make sense to close out the stories of Jurassic Park characters like Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and even Ian Malcolm in the process. Considering that even director / co-writer Colin Trevorrow is on record as agreeing with such a sentiment, it doesn't feel like that's going to be too much of an ask come time for the final script to be handed in.

Though as far as the Jurassic World half of the equation goes, we've seen Howard's Claire Dearing go from corporate player to compassionate conservationist between the first film and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. With the latter film ending on a note that sees Claire get some moments of ass-kicking action in the quest to stop the Indoraptor, I had to wonder if maybe Claire was done with humans and ready to fight through tougher methods. While she rejects that her character would ever go full anarchist / activist, Bryce Dallas Howard wouldn't mind giving Claire a harder edge, at least in the following capacity:

I've been lobbying for Claire to get an undercut [radical hairstyle] and I think that's not going to happen. I don't think she's going to become an eco-terrorist.

While she might not be hunting down humans in Jurassic World 3, it could be said that Ms. Dearing will in fact be in harder form than we've ever seen her before. Therefore, if there's trouble to be had, it sounds like she'll be noble and fierce in equal measure. We'll find out soon enough, as Jurassic World 3 is set for release on June 11, 2021. In the meantime, if you still haven't seen Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, or want to revisit it for old time's sake, the film is currently available in Digital HD, with DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD physical releases landing on September 18th.
