Star Wars: Episode IX Reveals Time Jump From The Last Jedi

Star Wars fans will have to wait a full year until the release of Star Wars: Episode IX. Thankfully, details about the film are ever so slowly starting to reveal themselves. For instance, there's a new report claiming that there will be a time jump between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Episode IX. Apparently, the new film will take place exactly one year after the events of The Last Jedi.

Time jumps are certainly nothing new to the Star Wars franchise. A couple of years usually separates each movie in a trilogy. Star Wars: The Force Awakens obviously took place many years after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. However, The Last Jedi bucked this trend a bit by taking place immediately after The Force Awakens so that we could see the meeting between Rey and Luke Skywalker.

According to Empire Magazine, there will be a one-year time jump between The Last Jedi and Episode IX. No other details were provided.

When we last left the Resistance, their forces were severely diminished in a confrontation with the First Order. Thankfully, all the A-Listers like Rey, Poe, Finn, and Leia (and Nien Nunb, of course) survived so the Resistance could live on to fight another day. We'll likely see that they've grown their ranks in the past year. The time jump might also be a way to address the absence of Leia after Carrie Fisher passed away last year.

Now that Rey is committed to the Jedi path, it'll be interesting to see how Rey's force powers have grown. The Last Jedi implied that more force-sensitive characters were out there, so it's possible the more of them find their way to the Resistance.

Additionally, the bad guys are likely to have gone through some significant changes. Kylo Ren took over the First Order after he killed Snoke. How different will the First Order be given its new leadership? Kylo isn't exactly the most stable of guys, but that might just make the First Order all the more dangerous.

Hopefully, answers to these questions and more will reveal themselves in 2019. There's still a ton that we do not know about this movie, and with J.J. Abrams and his Mystery Box back on board, it'll likely stay that way for a while.

Star Wars: Episode IX doesn't arrive until December 20, 2019, but CinemaBlend will be paying close attention to all developments, so be sure to stick with us, and we'll keep you updated with new information about the film.
