Zachary Levi Is Jealous of Aquaman For The Funniest Reason

Zachary Levi as Shazam in DCEU

There are so many reasons to be jealous of Jason Momoa's Aquaman. First of all, he looks like Jason Momoa. Second, his movie just hit $1 billion, a first for any DCEU film, and just a huge win for any film. Third, he looks like -- no, we already covered that one. But the new guy in the DC world, upcoming Shazam! star Zachary Levi, revealed he's jealous of Aquaman for a more fishy reason:

DC should just send a camera crew with Zachary Levi and Jason Momoa as they go diving together. Let them talk to the fishies, or at least believe that they are talking to the fishies. Post it on YouTube or go ahead and stream it at DC Universe. It would be gold.

Zachary Levi has the tough job of following Aquaman in theaters. Or maybe it's not tough? Maybe he has the easier job of riding Aquaman's success into his own very different release. Shazam! is connected to the DCEU, but he is not a part of the Justice League we've come to know. So we're going to be getting to know him first through his own solo film. The DCEU hasn't done that since the first film, Man of Steel. After that, Wonder Woman showed up in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before getting her own film, and Aquaman was shown in Justice League before he took the world by storm.

Zachary Levi already seems to be having a blast in his role, though. He clearly loves engaging with fans, and he should bring a different kind of energy to the film. Shazam! does have a more youthful element to it than most recent superhero films, since it follows 14-year-old Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a troubled orphan who is given the power to transform into an adult superhero (Levi) when he says the word "Shazam!"

Shazam was also called Captain Marvel in DC Comics, and the Shazam! director had some fun with that, since the MCU's Captain Marvel will be coming to theaters just a month before the DCEU's #TheOriginalCaptainMarvel arrives.

Based on that poll director David F. Sandberg shared, at least some fans are more interested in Shazam! than Captain Marvel. Not that it's a direct competition -- and they are both likely to be snapped out by Avengers: Endgame when that shows up on April 26. This is why April might have a superhero problem that affects everyone on screen.

That's just good news for fans, though. An embarrassment of riches! Now someone just has to magically gift us the power to produce money out of thin air so we can afford to see all of these movies.

Fans have a few more months to wait before Shazam! arrives in theaters on April 5, as one of the many, many films to look forward to in 2019. For now, Jason Momoa and Aquaman director James Wan are in the spotlight, taking a well-deserved bow for turning Entourage's joke into a billion-dollar hero. Well played.
