ReelBlend #53: Breaking Down The Biggest Oscar Storylines

Emma Stone in The Favourite

Powered by RedCircle

Days like this are very exciting at ReelBlend headquarters. Not only do we have normal things to get to, like the #Blend Game and a spoiler-filled discussion about all of the things that Glass did wrong. But on Tuesday morning, we received Oscar nominations. Bona fide Oscar nominations. Which means that the movies Kevin, Jake and Sean have been debating about for months are now officially Oscar nominated. Or they are NOT Oscar nominated. And man, does that mean that the guys have a lot to say today.

Press play on Episode #53 of ReelBlend, and dive right into the insanity that is the 91st Annual Academy Award nominations.

It was a very good day for Roma. Alfonso Cuaron's deeply personal love letter to his childhood earned 10 nominations including the two biggest, Best Picture and Director. Roma tied with The Favourite for 10 total nominations, as Yorgos Lanthimos' period comedy also broke into Picture, Director, Actress (for Olivia Colman) and two Supporting Actress nods (for Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz).

And yet, the attention of the guys shifted quickly to snubs. Where is Bradley Cooper's directing nomination? Where is the overall love for First Man? For real, don't get Kevin started on the omission of Justin Hurwitz's score for First Man. He is enraged.

Don't care about the Oscars? We have you covered. The ReelBlend guys start the show with a breakdown of the first trailer for John Wick: Chapter 3 -- Parabellum. Watch this before you listen to their commentary.

And of course, we had the #Blend Game this week. We dedicated it to Samuel L. Jackson, and we didn't all pick Pulp Fiction. So there's that! Before we dove into the game, however, we discussed M. Night Shyamalan's Glass in depth. With spoilers. It got ugly.
