Ashton Kutcher Reveals How He Handled His Divorce With Demi Moore

Kutcher on Two and a Half Men

Everyone handles their break-ups in their own separate ways. Some people eat. Some people drink. Some people turn to poetry. But when you're Ashton Kutcher, and you've just ended your first marriage with Demi Moore, you do something a little different. When appearing on fellow actor Dax Shepard's podcast, Kutcher revealed his unorthodox approach to his emotional recovery. It involved the mountains, tea, no technology and zero food.

Right after I got divorced, I went to the mountains for a week by myself. I did no food, no drink -- just water and tea. I took all my computers away, my phone, my everything. I was there by myself, so there was no talking. I just had a notepad, a pen and water and tea -- for a week.

Ashton Kutcher continued explaining to Shepard on Armchair Expert that his confessional writing process during his stay in Big Sky, Montana involved reflecting inward about his relationship, and attempting to make amends with anyone who deserved it. In order to make peace with his divorce, he felt he needed to clear the air with everyone else in his life.

I wrote down every single relationship that I had where I felt like there was some grudge or some anything, regret, anything. And I wrote letters to every single person, and on day seven, I typed them all out and then sent them.

This sounds a bit like making amends for alcoholics anonymous, but at least Ashton Kutcher has a process. While not all of us can put away everything to go up into the mountains by ourselves for a week, there is something simply refined and meditative about going that way with your past indiscretions. The Two and a Half Men star also practiced Tai Chi then, which is why he believes he began to experience hallucinations during his week of self-reflection. In the end, Kutcher believes the trip was "really spiritual and kind of awesome." Through this rigorous week-long process, he says he cleared "his palette" through his isolation.

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore finalized their divorce in 2013, after announcing their separation two years prior. Thankfully, the actor rebounded shortly thereafter. He is now currently with Mila Kunis, his former That '70s Show co-star. They were married in 2015, and the couple share two children together, three-year-old Wyatt and 1-year-old Dimitri. Meanwhile, Kutcher also appears on Netflix's sitcom The Ranch, which recently streamed part of its second season on the site. However, Danny Masterson, his co-star and his fellow That '70s Show alum, was recently booted from the program. Kutcher also filmed a role in James Franco's The Long Home, based on the novel by William Gay, though goodness knows if or when that'll arrive.
