Jennifer Lawrence isn't going let anyone criticize her fashion choices. After she wore a revealing dress for an event highlighting her new film, Red Sparrow, in London, the Academy Award-winning actress received more than a fair share of flack for her style choice. Mostly because it was so low cut and London was extremely cold at the time. Hitting social media today to discuss the matter, Lawrence has clapped back something fierce. The actress considered herself "extremely offended" by the "ridiculous" commentary for her outfit.
Wow. I don't really know where to get started on this 'Jennifer Lawrence wearing a revealing dress in the cold' controversy. This is not only utterly ridiculous, I am extremely offended. That Versace dress was fabulous, you think I'm going to cover that gorgeous dress up with a coat and a scarf? I was outside for 5 minutes. I would have stood in the snow for that dress because I love fashion and that was my choice.
Her response, delivered to her official Facebook account, is a rare rant from the acclaimed, world-beloved actress. While Jennifer Lawrence isn't known to hit the web to talk about these matters, something about this particular controversy struck the actress the wrong way. She went as far as to call the whole incident "sexist" and believes the outpour of negative comments delivered to her attire is not the way we should conduct ourselves as feminists today. Moreover, she believes that talking about something as frivolous as what someone is wearing in the cold is distracting us from the bigger issues.
This is sexist, this is ridiculous, this is not feminism. Overreacting about everything someone says or does, creating controversy over silly innocuous things such as what I choose to wear or not wear, is not moving us forward. It's creating silly distractions from real issues. Get a grip, people. Everything you see me wear is my choice. And if I want to be cold, THAT'S MY CHOICE TOO!
These comments come shortly after Jennifer Lawrence announced she is taking a break from acting for a year. She's reportedly going to take that year off to focus on working with the organization Represent.Us, which hopes to get young people engaged politically. It's her attempt to try to "fix our democracy." Before she possibly steps back momentarily from acting, Lawrence will appear in two upcoming movies this year. The first is the aforementioned Red Sparrow, which comes out on March 2nd. She is also reprising her role as Mystique in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which hits theaters on November 2nd.
Jennifer Lawrence also recently appeared in the controversial mother!, which unjustly earned the actress a Razzie nomination. Say what you will about Lawrence, but she didn't deserve that nomination for her committed performance. Also, be sure not to talk about her dress. You know what will happen.
