The Game Of Thrones Character That Robert Pattinson Would Have Wanted To Play

Robert Pattinson in Water for Elephants

There are few shows as massively popular as HBO's Game of Thrones. The fantasy drama accrues millions of viewers every week, essentially becoming the go-to water cooler talk on Mondays. This includes even alumni of the series, as well as majorly famous film stars. It turns out that Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson is one of the show's many fans, which makes him much more likable in my opinion. And Pattinson knows the exact character he'd like to have played on Game, if he were given the chance. No, he didn't want to be the King of the North. Instead, he'd rather play the simple fan favorite Hodor.

This news comes to us from Robert Pattinson's recent AMA on Reddit. When a fan asked which Game of Thrones character he'd have liked to play, Pattinson responded with a resounding "Hodor for sure".

That's a solid choice by Edward Cullen, even if Hodor might not have been the first character that the fandom would associate with the young actor. But Hodor had a tragic and long tenure on the series, resulting in one of the most heartbreaking deaths. And considering how often HBO kills off major characters on the series, that's really saying something.

Of course, Robert Pattinson wouldn't be a very good choice to play Hodor. Standing at just 6'1 and having a lean frame wouldn't allow him to carry Bran around Westeros for season after season. Hodor is supposed to be a simple giant, which is why he's the perfect companion for Ban and his warging abilities.

Additionally, having a film star like Robert Pattinson attached to the project probably would have resulted in him getting a bit more meaty of a role. He actually could have made a fine Theon Greyjoy, with no offense given to Alfie Allen. That being said, he be playing a much less liked character than poor Hodor, so I respect Pattinson's choice.

Hodor in Game of Thrones

Hodor was one of the most unique and pitiable characters on Game of Thrones. The giant was only ever able to utter one word throughout the majority of the series: his own name. Hodor was Bran's arms and legs throughout most of the series, carrying the little Lord to wherever he needed to be. This eventually included going North of the Wall so that Bran could meet his destiny with the One Eyed Raven. Hodor survived all the way until Season 6, where he died from tragic circumstances as the audience understood that his name was also his destiny.

Game of Thrones' Season 7 finale will air tomorrow evening, and you can catch Robert Pattinson in Good Time in select theaters. In the meantime, check out our fall premiere list to plan your next binge watch.
