Although it ended a few months ago, Game of Thrones fans are still discussing and dissecting the crazy Season 7. Westeros' penultimate installment was seriously amped up in regards to pacing, and delivered fans some highly anticipated reunions, new character pairings, and breathtaking action sequences. And now all eyes look to the final season of Game of Thrones, which will contain six episodes that are rumored to be film-like in their scope and budget. But how is HBO going to keep all the final twists and turns under wraps? According to Liam Cunningham, they're not even letting the cast see the scripts.
I got six of [the scripts], I've got them all. I can't open them because of all the security, and I can't walk it out. I can't open them!
Liam Cunningham recently opened up to IGN about the final season of Thrones, where he was asked about the mysterious final scripts. And while he's received them, he's apparently not allowed to even open them up until he's on location and onset for the final episodes. And the suspense is even bothering the cast and crew.
It should come to no surprise that Game of Thrones is doing whatever they can to guard the contents of its eighth and final season. Because it's one of the most popular shows on television, Game has had a fair share of leaks and security breaks during its long tenure on the air. Due to screeners being leaked for two seasons in a row, the show no longer gives press episodes in advance to review or interview the cast about. Unfortunately that didn't even stop a few episodes from being leaked in Season 7. Additionally, paparazzi and press are constantly trying to snap pictures of the show while it films, and Gendry's return to GoT last season was ruined when he was spotted in a local airport close to set.
There were even reports that Game of Thrones will be filming multiple endings, in an attempt to avoid potential spoilers being leaked online. Actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (aka Jamie) has since refuted this idea, claiming that the show wouldn't spend even more money filming bogus scenes. The show is already the most expensive show in TV history, after all.
Liam Cunningham seems to be the most chatty about the upcoming eight season of Game of Thrones. He recently revealed that the series will likely be filming until the end of next summer, strongly hinting that there is little chance that Season 8 will arrive in 2018. Of course, this excruciating wait till be forgiven if the show can deliver a satisfying final season and series finale, so the pressure is on.
