First Look At Jessica Jones Season 2 Features A Return From Kilgrave

While Season 2 of Jessica Jones is set to introduce a slew of new characters and a love interest, some old characters will be making their return as well. This apparently includes a resurrection, as the Season 1 villain Kilgrave is pictured in the first look at the new season. In this picture, Kilgrave can be seen staring a hole into the side of Jessica's head, and he doesn't look happy:

For anyone who thought all Kilgrave appearances died with that neck snap, think again. The villain seems alive and well in this first look at Season 2 of Jessica Jones, although it's unlikely he'll be seen in any living capacity. More likely than not, this scene may be a flashback to when Jessica was under Kilgrave's control, and forced to so his bidding.

There's also the chance that Kilgrave is some part of a hallucination Jessica just can't seem to shake. That seems logical, considering the villain spent several months inside her head manipulating her into doing as he says. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg tells EW that Kilgrave and his impact on Jessica will continue to be important to her story, so it's important that he still appears in Season 2, even if he isn't the primary force Jones is going up against.

Star Krysten Ritter adds that while Season 1 of Jessica Jones was a story about Jessica's mind, Season 2 will be a tale that focuses on her heart. With a new love interest being teased, obviously Jessica's abusive past with Kilgrave is bound to rear its ugly head as she continues to struggle past the trauma she experienced. Melissa Rosenberg adds that Jessica wasn't necessarily a well-adjusted person prior to her time with Kilgrave either, and it appears Season 2 will focus on exploring some of the time before that.

Overall, it's a good way to bring back in David Tennant, whose performance of Kilgrave received much acclaim, without cheaply changing his death and the impact taking his life had on Jessica. Of course, there's always a very small chance the Jessica Jones team is telling some white lies, and Kilgrave did indeed survive getting his neck snapped. The Kilgrave of the comics had healing abilities, so it's not completely out of the realm of possibility, although it feels more likely than not we're only going to see the villain in flashbacks, dreams, and things of that nature.
