There are few shows in TV history quite as popular as Game of Thrones. HBO's fantasy drama has enthralled audiences for years, adapting George R.R. Martin's novels that first hit bookshelves decades ago. Fans are eager to see how the complicated and bloody tale of Westeros ends, and are eager for more details revolving the show's eighth and final season on the air. It's currently unclear exactly when Season 8 will arrive, as GoT is filming its massive new set of episodes now. But it turns out that the cast and crew already know how the entire thing is going to end. This tidbit comes to us from Maisie Williams, who said:
I do, I know the end of Game of Thrones. . . . I was just in my bed, I think, just like reading. It's just surreal, being on this show for so long, and then it also having the following that it does, it's just...everyone's waiting for this moment, and then you read it, and it's incredible.
Well, this is certainly exciting. While we'll likely have to wait about a year until Game of Thrones Season 8 airs, it's fun to known that the finale is now officially set in stone. Maisie Williams isn't able to give any tease about the contents of the final episodes, but luckily the fans are passionate enough to keep anticipation at a fever pitch.
Maisie Williams' comments come from her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! In typical Jimmy fashion, he tried his best to get some spoilers out of the 20 year old actress. But she's been through this dance before, and therefore managed to get through the interview without revealing much of anything. She does seem to think that the finale is appropriate for the scale of the series, which will also give the fandom some peace during the excruciating wait until Season 8 arrives.
The pressure is on for Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the award winning drama. Like Season 7 before it, they must do this without the guide of George R.R. Martin's novels, as he still hasn't written the last few novels. Last season was a true game changer in that way, amping up the pace and providing a ton of long awaited moments.
Months ago HBO's president stated the series would be filming multiple finales in an attempt to throw off spoilers, but Maisie Williams seemed to refute this to Jimmy Kimmel, saying:
Well I heard this, and I immediately thought, 'I don't think we've got the budget to shoot lots of different endings'... But as we know, sometimes presidents don't always tell the truth.
As far as Arya's story is concerned, there is the potential for some majorly epic moments for the youngest Stark daughter. The army of the dead are fast approaching Winterfell, so Arya may have to use her Valyrian steel dagger to kill some undead enemies. And with Cersei still alive and plotting from King's Landing, one has to wonder if she'll be able to complete her death list.
