The Flash: First Look At Iris In A Superhero Suit Will Get Fans Pumped

It took three and a half seasons, Flash fans, but we're finally going to see Iris West become a bona fide superhero with her own suit! The upgrade will only be temporary, unfortunately, but we aim to eke every drop of enjoyment out of it when it happens, which will be on Tuesday, March 13. Check out Iris' colorful new getup below and read on to find out exactly how Team Flash's head honcho acquired her newly realized powers.

For the most part, The Flash's metahuman heroes have all rocked the warmer and brighter shades of the color spectrum, so it's intriguing the designers leaned so heavily into dark blue for Iris' first big super-suit. One assumes that the purple hues are just reflections of the overcast sky used as the backdrop, but I quite like the way they mix with the suit's actual color. However, that's a color palette better suited for...Violett...Beane. Right? Right? (Crickets chirp super-speedily.)

So why is Iris even wearing a suit to begin with? Because it's time, of course! Within the context of the narrative specifically, I don't think anyone will be too surprised to learn that a new Central City villain will be involved. Check out the synopsis for "Run, Iris, Run" below.

IRIS SUITS UP --- Team Flash confronts a new bus meta, Matthew a.k.a. Melting Pot (guest star Leonardo Nam), with the ability to swap people's DNA. During a battle with Team Flash, Matthew transfers Barry's (Grant Gustin) super speed to Iris (Candice Patton). Now, with a new threat unleashed on Central City, Barry must act as the team leader while Iris takes on the mantle of superhero speedster in order to defeat their new foe.

I don't suppose I could have predicted another way for Iris and Barry's dynamic to completely change like that without introducing a metahuman whose power is entirely centered on swapping people's genetics. The Flash is just the kind of bonkers show that makes such assumptions both possible and inevitable. But really, it could have been a roboticist who installed a jet-pack on her back that gave her manufactured super-speed. It's just always good to see Iris getting some fresh air. In costume. While also beating the crap out of bad guys.

There are two big questions we have now about Iris' transition. How will The Thinker's involvement play into Melting Pot's defeat? There are a thousand sub-questions below that one, but it will suffice as is. And the second is, does Iris' speedy adventure connect with that mystery woman who has popped up a couple of times?

Now, as a final thought on the costume itself, I do like that the whole front flap seems as if it could be held there using something velcro-esque. Which, to me, would present a more logical and easy way for characters to get into the suits by themselves. But I guess when you can move that quick, minor discomforts aren't a big thing.

As a reminder, we will get to see Iris zipping around Central City on Tuesday, March 13, and you can catch The Flash every Tuesday night on The CW at 8:00 p.m. ET. To see where other costumed heroines will be beating bad guys down on the small screen, head to our midseason premiere schedule.
