Damon Wayans Jr. Just Signed On For A New Network Sitcom

Coach Damon Wayans Jr. New Girl Fox

Damon Wayans Jr., an actor who always seems to have his name thrown around whenever TV pilot season springs up, has had a fair amount of luck attaching himself to shows that had decent runs on television. Wayans Jr. will once again roll the dice this year as he just signed on for a pilot for a new network sitcom. If the show goes to series, Wayans Jr. would make the trip over to CBS for an untitled multi-camera comedy that features a suburban couple whose world is changed when a pop star moves into their home.

Damon Wayans Jr. will play the pop star's music manager Peter who has his world turned upside down when his client decides to move in with him and his wife Claire. The pop star, Cooper, is enamored with Peter and Claire's super normal suburban life and moves in with the couple as the two try to rectify their mundane lives. Wayans Jr.'s Peter is said to have a good sense of humor and is happily married to his wife Claire, which means she's likely not the source of their mundane life.

Deadline reports the untitled comedy project comes from two writers that are familiar with network comedy shows Tim McAuliffe and Austin Earl. McAuliffe is best known for his writing on Fox's The Last Man On Earth and also had an extensive run as a writer on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in addition to other projects. McAuliffe is joined by Earl, who has written for numerous CBS comedies including The Millers, Angel From Hell, The Great Indoors, and 9JKL. Both men will serve as executive producers and will be joined by Ben Winston who is also the executive producer of The Late Late Show With James Corden.

While Damon Wayans Jr. is almost always in the mix during pilot season, this untitled comedy pilot will only be the third broadcast potential series he's agreed to, with the prior two being New Girl and Happy Endings. Should this new pilot go to series, Wayans Jr.'s deal is said to include the show as well as a two-year first-look producing deal with CBS TV Studios. That has the potential to be a very lucrative deal for Wayans Jr., so one would imagine he's wanting this pilot to go to series a little more than other projects he's been a part of.

Damon Wayans Jr.'s potential new series doesn't have a name or premiere date yet, so we'll have to wait for more updates as they arrive.
