How Outlander's Sex Scenes Will Be Different In Season 4, According To One Star

Outlander has become known for many things over its three seasons so far, ranging from the incredible cast to the engaging stories to the confounding time travel. The show may be best known, however, for its sex scenes that rank among the steamiest on TV. Claire and Jamie always seem to find time to hit the sheets -- or wall or grass or table, as the case may be -- in the show, although they spent a significant portion of Season 3 separate from one another. Season 4 ended with them together in a whole new world, and their sex lives will apparently be different in their new lives in some key ways. Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie, said this about Jamie and Claire's romance in Season 4:

It's a very important part of their relationship. They're slightly older, so maybe it's less energetic, who knows? But they are madly in love with each other. They're older now, and it's the first time we actually get to see them as this couple that actually can be together and not be in some sort of dire drama. Up until now, there's always been something going on. It's nice, for a brief moment, to see them be able to relax in each other's company, though of course it's Outlander, so it doesn't last long.

Season 4 will apparently allow Jamie and Claire to live as husband and wife without any outside factors interfering, at least for a while. The good thing about being shipwrecked in the American colonies is that there won't be British soldiers everywhere looking for Red Jamie. Sure, there's still a British presence in the colonies, but Jamie and Claire may be able to breathe a lot easier in the future United States than they ever could in Scotland.

They'll likely have a clean slate and perhaps even a benefactor to help them set up. Fortunately for them, they won't have to worry about Black Jack Randall or Geillis Duncan turning up again. What could be more romantic for them now that they're a bit older than not having to run for their lives? Sam Heughan's comments to ELLE.com point toward sex scenes that could be somewhat calmer and less frantic as they get to enjoy some relative peace.

As this is Outlander we're talking about and there are many more seasons probably on the way, that relative peace isn't likely to last for very long. Hopefully Jamie and Claire make the most of their time alone together before everything inevitably falls apart again. Young Ian could be as much of a hindrance as a help, and Fergus and Marsali's marriage could complicate the entire situation, especially if their story on the show follows what happens in the books. My fingers are crossed that Murtagh will turn up out of nowhere to save the day, because surely Outlander wouldn't have sent him to the colonies rather than killing him off if he wasn't going to come back, right?

We'll have to wait and see. The fourth season of Outlander will kick off on Starz in 2018. No exact premiere date has been revealed at this point.
