Mindy Kaling Is Heading To It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Season 12 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia ended on FXX way back March 2017, and fans have been waiting more than a full year for the next batch of episodes. Season 13 was originally meant to premiere in late 2018, but no premiere date has yet been released, and details about what to expect have been largely scarce. Now, thanks to Mindy Kaling on social media, we know that she'll likely have a part to play in the upcoming thirteenth season. Take a look!

Technically, Mindy Kaling's tweet doesn't indicate that she'll be working on an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and she's only seen holding a sides from a script for Season 13. The caption simply states that she's visiting friends, and Kaling did work with one Always Sunny star during an arc of The Mindy Project, so it'll be perfectly reasonable if it turns out that Kaling simply dropped by set to visit some other folks in showbiz. That said, what Kaling is holding in the photo seems to indicate that there's more going on than just hanging out with some pals.

Mindy Kaling is holding the sides from the script for Episode 10 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 13. Sides are pages of scripts generally only show individual scenes, sometimes for filming and sometimes for auditioning. Kaling's pose to clearly show off the writing on the back of the page gives the impression that she has something to do with the episode.

It's also worth noting that another member of the Always Sunny team posted a pic of Mindy Kaling on social media, although it has since been deleted. Rob McElhenney, who stars in, writes for, and created Always Sunny, shared a photo on Instagram that showed Kaling among cast members, including McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson, Danny DeVito, and Charlie Day. McElhenney's caption said that they're "proud to announce the new member of the gang." Kaling really could be part of the cast for at least one episode of Always Sunny Season 13.

If Mindy Kaling is slated to appear in Episode 10 of Season 13, it's possible that she'll have a pivotal role. The last five seasons of Always Sunny have run for ten episodes each; assuming Season 13 also runs for ten episodes, Kaling would be appearing in the Season 13 finale. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait and see. Even if Kaling does appear in front of the camera on the show, there's no guarantee that she'll reunite with her former Mindy Project love interest Glenn Howerton. Howerton won't be around full-time in the next season, and we still don't know how much of him we can expect.
