Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Star Narrows Down When Season 6 Will Hit ABC

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had previously been bumped by ABC to air next summer, and while fans have known that information for quite a while, the network has been cryptic about when the new (and potentially final) season will actually debut. Now, that answer has possibly been revealed by actress Elizabeth Henstridge, who took to social media to narrow down the window for when Season 6 will hit ABC, saying it's happening in July 2019.

Elizabeth Henstridge dropped the knowledge that, if proven accurate, means Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will finally return to television in July of 2019, well over a year after Season 5's conclusion. Apparently, ABC plans to release Season 6 during the mid-summer, which probably means the stretch of 13 new episodes will bleed into September. That said, ABC doesn't kick off its fall lineup until late into September this year, and if the network continues with that trend in 2019, the season should be wrapping up just as ABC brings out its biggest shows for the fall season.

ABC has yet to confirm Elizabeth Henstridge's comment, but the fact that the show appears to return and end prior to ABC's fall programming gives credence to the statement's legitimacy. After all, ABC president Channing Dungey was upfront that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. got moved to the summer to free up its former time slot for a series that has a better chance of succeeding with live-viewership ratings. Dungey also explained that the move is actually good news for the series' loyal fan base, since airingS.H.I.E.L.D. in the summer will allow it to thrive more in delayed viewing without relying as much on live views, which will give the show a better chance at continuing into the future.

This latest Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. update comes after it was reported the series was back in production for Season 6 in July, although details about how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. intends to follow up on its Season 5 finale are unknown. It has been announced that the upcoming premiere will be directed by actor Clark Gregg, and is titled "Missing Pieces." Gregg helming the episode has many fans wondering what will happen to Agent Coulson, as the finale did not leave the character in a great place. We will apparently have to wait until July to see what happens, unless of course someone can pester Elizabeth Henstridge on Instagram for more Season 6 reveals!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may be back on ABC to air Season 6 sometime in July of next year, although that's currently unofficial. For more on what's happening on television in the coming weeks, be sure to visit our super handy summer and fall premiere guides.
